What is IPL?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a visible light source which is attracted to haemoglobin found in the blood (and melanin found in hair, freckles and age spots). The light is absorbed causing a heat reaction. This shrinks tissue and veins, reduces fat cells, stimulates collagen, tightens contours and firms skin tone.

Laser v IPL skin rejuvenation - what's the difference?

Laser resurfacing is a deeper and more intense treatment requiring anaesthetic, long recovery time and surgical dressings, thus it is more suitable for acne, severe sun damage, deep scarring or well established wrinkles. IPL is a relatively painless skin tone improvement treatment suitable for most people - it is cheaper, with fast recovery and minimal side effects.

Which machines do you use?

We only use Ellipse Light IPL machines as we've found these to be the safest. They use intense pulsed light (IPL) technology and a patented 'dual mode filtering' system which removes all potentially harmful wavelengths. The Ellipse has pre-programmed treatment suggestions for different hair and skin types. Light Fantastic staff are fully trained and qualified at the highest level. If you are comparing with other cheaper clinics please make sure you compare like for like - your safety is our paramount concern.

Is it suitable for all skin types?

No. We would not go above skin type 3, sometimes 4, for safety. Olive skin shades are the darkest we would normally treat, although some skin type 4 clients may be fine, you would need a skin test as with all our treatments.
